Hydor Ario Submersible Air Pump

The Hydor Ario pump is an air pump that will infuse large amount of air at a rapid rate into your water tank. This makes far more oxygen available in the nutrient solution. While a good thing in soil and coco, it is especially important in hydroponics in which oxygen supply to the roots can sometimes be lacking. Oxygen in the water has two main benefits for your plants.

Having more access to oxygen, the roots will thrive and be able to work at their maximum uptake rate. Unlike the leaves that draw carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, the roots require oxygen to maintain health. Much like us, plants need this essential gas for cellular respiration and nutrient absorption. The CO2 it draws in is for conversion into sugars, not for plant health. Having a high level of dissolved oxygen makes sure your roots have a plentiful supply for maximum benefit.

Aeration of a nutrient solution is key in keeping algae at bay and other pests that like standing/ stagnant water like Fungus gnat. Many pathogens thrive anaerobically (without oxygen) and oxygenation keeps those away too.
